A native of Augusta, Georgia, he graduated from The Citadel before earning his medical degree and completing his residency at the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Barfield joined the practice in 1976 and has since delivered more than 10,000 babies. While his legacy is rooted in obstetrics, he now focuses his clinical practice on gynecologic exams, surgical procedures, and infertility, with a specialized interest in hormonal management. A Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Dr. Barfield is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and served as the Chairman of the OBGYN Department at University Hospital for 25 years and president of this group for 30
